The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is the governing body of Freemasonry in England, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and our Districts overseas. Our role is to provide structure, guidance and support to our members, while managing the administration of a centuries-old organisation.
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest social and charitable organisations. Its roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles, yet it is as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago.
Membership of UGLE is open to any man over the age of 18, irrespective of their race, religion or background. UGLE currently has about 200,000 members meeting in more than 7,000 Lodges across the country, with students able to join one of the 85 Universities Scheme Lodges Freemasons use four important guiding principles to help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity
