Apprentice Chef

This role will be paying National Minimum wage per age. The rate advertised is for 16-17 year olds.


A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. The primary objective of the commis chef is to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in every section of the kitchen.

Listed below is the key accountabilities of this position;

Support to cater for all students and staff on site

Support with catering/hospitality functions

Prepare and cook dishes using fresh produce covering a wide range of food groups , e.g meat & offal, fish

Process receipt of orders

Comply with statutory legal and company requirements for fire, health and safety, and food safety

Assist in all food production areas: preparation, cook and chill as per menu cycles

Assist in the preparation of hospitality as required

Assist in all food production and in general cleaning duties, maintaining high standards of hygiene throughout.

Receive all stock, store and check for quality and quantity; ensuring that all stock is dated and rotated

Maximise all sales opportunities through selling techniques

Clean all work areas during and after use and remove all waste to the appropriate area

Maintain record of temperatures and report any variance

Attend and comply with all training requested by your manager

To ensure all food preparation is carried out in accordance with food hygiene procedures

To ensure food is prepared to required standard checking for taste, presentation and quality

To ensure food is served promptly

To ensure food is sent out is correctly garnished

To ensure portion control, preparation and storage methods are carried out correctly to avoid wastage
