Detailed Job Description

PJ Care are looking for a hardworking, trustworthy and enthusiastic general assistant. This job is for someone who not only takes pride in their work but someone who would like to one day train to be a junior chef. Flexibility is essential. This role can and will lead to progression within the company for the right candidate in what is an exciting role within an ever-growing company. The successful candidate will also work towards gaining a Level 2 Production Chef Qualification.

They specialise in the care and treatment of adults and their residents are at the heart of everything they do. Dignity, independence and holistic wellbeing is achieved through specialist care models, in-house therapies and activities provided.
The right candidate will be able to:
• Prepare and cook meals to a high standard, taking into account specific dietary requirements for each resident.
• Support Stock control.
• Prepare puree meals, ensuring food is at the right consistency for our residents.
• Keep the kitchen clean and ensure all workstations are safe to use.
• Ensure washing up procedures are followed.
• Be bold, innovate and creative when supporting the creation of new menus.

Skills Required

Able to work as part of a team
Able to take instructions
Able to work under pressure

Personal Qualities

The right candidate will:
• Love to cook and have a burning passion about your job
• Be fun, friendly but professional
• Have at least 2 years working in a kitchen is preferred but not essential
• Enjoy cleaning and making sure the highest hygiene standards are maintained
• Support other team members in achieving the delivery of a high-quality menu.

Qualifications Required

• Food hygiene level 2 (preferred, but not essential as training will be given)
• Basic knowledge of health and safety practices
• Have at least 2 years working in a kitchen is preferred but not essential
Maths and English will be assessed as part of the interview process

Future Prospects

This role can and will lead to progression within the company for the right candidate in what is an exciting role within an ever-growing company. This role with the right development can progress into a Junior Chef position. Upon completing the apprenticeship the candidate will have the opportunity to further develop their catering career. This could be in the form of another apprenticeship or specialising in other areas such as dysphagia.

Other Information

The Hours are 7-7 and you will work 7 out of 14 days every 2 weeks on a rolling rota.
The shifts are 12 hour days with 1 hour breaks and work 2 days one week and 5 the other week only totalling 7 days every 14. Study time will be included in this.
Because of the hours required this vacancy would suit an 18 year old or over.

Training to be Provided

Level 2 Food Production Chef Apprenticeship. Maths and English if required.
