Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure are looking for a self-motivated, vibrant Assistant Manager to take the reigns of Sir James Hawkey Hall alongside our Vision Venues Manager.

Sir James Hawkey Hall was the civic hall for the former borough of Wanstead and Woodford, that was opened in March 1955 by Sir Winston Churchill. Its grand mid-century decor and commemorative historical items lend an impressive backdrop for your function. The venue includes the main hall, smaller side hall, large foyer, dressing rooms, green room, ladies lounge/prayer room, kitchens, servery and large stage; making it ideal for a wide range of functions and events. Our new Assistant Manager will have a hands on approach to managing the venue, leading a small facilities team. They will work alongside hirers, caters and decorators alike to ensure the smooth running of all events at the venue. The new Assistant Manager will build strong relationships with suppliers such as caterers and decorators to ensure the service they provide their customers aligns with our standards and values at Hawkey Hall, leaving all guests feeling they have had a first class experience.

In the Assistant Manager role, you will get to:

  • Provide a welcoming, knowledgeable, efficient and professional service.
  • Let your outgoing and friendly personality shine through both with your team and all guests and visitors.
  • Ensure the venue set up of furniture and equipment meet our high standards of presentation and cleanliness.
  • Have a keen eye for keeping to the schedule, making sure all functions and events are fully staffed.
  • Ensure de-rigging of furniture, cleaning of all rooms and public spaces is completed to the required standard and within relevant time frame.
  • Manage the health and safety schedule for the venue, carrying out daily, weekly and monthly checks and liaising with contractors where necessary.
  • Organise rotas and lead our team of facilities assistants, providing sufficient staffing for all functions and events.

  • Can demonstrate their confidence in managing a small team of staff.
  • Are able to complete risk assessments.
  • Have a warm and welcoming personality and be proactive with an attention to detail.
  • Have strong communication and diplomacy skills.
  • Are comfortable working to tight or short notice deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills – can keep themselves and others to a tight schedule.
  • Must be flexible in working hours to accommodate late night and weekend bookings.
