Commis Chef Apprenticeship - The Puffing Billy Café

You will join a small team in the kitchen. We are a lively and relaxed café, and we all try hard to have fun at work. The business is run by a couple that have a wide experience in catering, from Michelin stars to super yachts! We will guide you through your first year of being in a kitchen and will set you on the right course for a career in hospitality.

Your hours will be 9.30 – 4, 5 days a week. We are on the famous Tarka Trail so we are busy at the weekends and in the summer so you will be expected to be able to work any 5 days from 7, but you will always get two days off together.

Daily tasks will include:

  • Learning to bake simple cakes and scones
  • Preparing breakfast and helping to serve
  • Making salads and some simple dishes
  • Learning Food Safety and science of food
  • Being on the pass, dishing up food on busy days

You will be well paid, and share in the tips, as well as your holiday entitlement you will get meals on shift and there is ample parking available
