The Red Lion is a Quality Village Local which is located in Mortimer, a pictueresque village in the heart of Berkshire. The pub vacancy represents a fantastic opportunity to build on a good reputation with locals and visitors to the area.
Mortimer Common, generally referred to as Mortimer, is a village in the civil parish of Stratfield Mortimer in Berkshire. Mortimer is in the local government district of West Berkshire and is seven miles south-west of Reading.
Mortimer is a hub for community activities. Mortimer Village Partnership (MVP) is an independent not for profit organisation that was set up by volunteers in 2009 whose purpose is to involve people and groups in the life of the village, to improve communications, to connect people together and facilitate activities and events in order to enhance the lives of those who live and work in Mortimer and nearby. Several events are organised annually, including a regular lunch club, theatre trips, travelling theatres, events for children and the famous annual Mortimer Fun Day in July which attracts thousands of visitors from all around.
Mortimer has several senior football teams including Mortimer FC as well as two youth football teams; Mortimer Stingers and Mortimer Hornets. Mortimer has amateur cricket and tennis clubs, cubs, scouts, girl guides and brownies clubs as well as the Mortimer Dramatic Society. A community centre was completed in the autumn of 2009, which is used as a cricket pavilion.
The Red Lion has been run in recent years as an Italian Gastro pub, serving a blend of quality British food and an authentic Italian menu. It also offers traditional real ales alongside an extensive Italian wine selection. The pub enjoys a strong and balanced lunchtime and evening trade.
The ideal applicant would be an operator with fresh ideas, a strong catering background, and who knows how to immerse themselves in the local community, as well as produce a quality and consistent food, beverage and hospitality offering.
We are delighted to present the Red Lion, a charming roses around the door public house, dating back to 1650. This traditional pub boasts an abundance of charm with original oak beams and an inglenook fire place.
The pub seats 70 covers comfortably over two separate trading areas with the bar in the centre of both. It has an adequate sized kitchen to cope with additional volume of food required during the summer months. The Red Lion has a reputation for good, locally sourced food and is much favoured by walkers. The garden is very manageable to the rear of the property which is laid with grass and overlooks attractive farm land.
