Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship - Chives Cafe

PLEASE NOTE WAGE ADVERTISED IS FOR 16-17 YEAR OLDS. NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE FOR AGE IS PAID

The café is open 7 days a week, the role is full time, which will mean 5 full working days over the week on a rota basis, including working weekends as per rota.

During the summer season the café operates longer opening hours and in the winter the hours are shorter and therefore there will be less hours available in the winter as in the summer.

Shifts start at 8.30am most days, however there will be days where shifts will start at 8am and other days they will start at 10am.

The role is primarily working front of house in a busy café undertaking

face to face customer service, which includes, taking food and beverage orders

answering questions and concerns

relaying information to the kitchen and other team members accurately and in a timely manner

writing orders that all staff are able to understand and be able to correctly work out a customers bill and taking payment.

Taking telephone calls and managing telephone reservations and orders for delivery is also required.

You should be able to communicate with customers effectively and with correct information with regards to concerns or queries, to receive customers on entry to the premises and guide them to a table when needed, and ensure that customers are comfortable throughout their visit by checking with them during their meal/drink and be ready to deal with any extra needs that may be required and seek help when unsure.

You will be

preparing cold beverages, including smoothies

learning how to make coffee ‘barista’ style and other hot beverages.

You will understand menu choices, daily specials, and all about allergens and intolerances in relation to what is sold on the premises.

Each day there is an opening checklist of cleaning and restocking, which is then kept to throughout the day and an end of day checklist to ensure that everything is cleaned down and ready for the next morning.

Daily tasks include

restocking food items in the fridges and warmers

restocking sweets and being able to weigh out required amounts throughout the day.

Keeping good housekeeping and ensuring hygiene measures are adhered to.

Being aware of stock replenishment and advising when stock is low ready for re-ordering.

Some part of the working you will be working in the kitchen performing

food preparation

reheating food and plating up food for customers

helping to maintain high standards of food hygiene

helping with cleaning and managing stock and waste.
