Milestone Brewery Brewery are looking for a brewer apprentice to join our team. No previous brewing experience is necessary, but a proven interest in beer is essential

The successful applicant will be involved in all day to day aspects of the brewing process, from recipe development, to ingredient selection, wort production, fermentation control, packaging, quality control and brewery maintenance. The Brewer Apprentice will work closely with all members of our brewing team and be fully involved in the day to day running of the brewery. There will also be opportunities to get involved in other aspects of brewery operations, including scheduling & planning, sales & marketing, and warehouse management. Starting life brewing adaptations of traditional ales, it has slowly evolved into more modern brewing techniques and winning a host of prestigious regional awards. Red Rock's mission is to grow to become Devon's biggest brewery.

The position will offer the candidate the opportunity to learn how the industry works from the angle of a craft micro-brewery. Unlike bigger breweries this successful candidate will be a key member of the brewing team and shall also play a fundamental part in the development of new beers.

The apprenticeship is Level 4 standard - the apprentice will attend 12 workshops at the International Centre for Brewing Science at the University of Nottingham. Industry experts will bring the theory and practice of brewing to life with a series of lectures, practical sessions and tutorials.

The chosen candidate will also complete and earn their Institute of Brewing and Distilling ‘General Certificate in Brewing’ as part of their learning.

Candidates will start out learning: -

  • The basics of brewery hygiene and working in a clean and safe manner.
  • Learn about brewery health and safety, manual handling and COSHH procedures.
  • The cleaning of containers and equipment.
  • Learn about how to operate equipment and machinery safely.
  • Learn to pick and prepare orders for customers and handle them safely.
  • Learn how the final products are processed and packaged, into various mediums, ready for sale.

Upon their advancement, candidates will learn about the brewing processes and how to brew. They will also look at beer design, sourcing and using the right raw materials, learn about different yeast strains and yeast management and learn about basic maintenance of their equipment
