Internal Communications Partner - 6 months FTC

Our internal Communications team are on the look-out for an InternaI Communications Partner to lead the team on an initial 6 month-FTC.

The communications function sits as part of a broader HR Business Partnering, Engagement and Comms team, ideally placed to support all aspects of the employee journey.

Who we’re looking for:

If you have a passion for improving communications and increasing engagement through building relationships, understanding audiences, developing channels and creating inspiring content then this role could be right up your street!

It’s an exciting role, leading a busy team in a fast-paced and progressive business. As the most senior internal communications person in our business, you’ll need to have experience of advising on the best way to communicate and engage audiences and be able to put your ideas into practice effectively.

We’re looking for an influential, enthusiastic, hard-working, confident teammate who’s not afraid to get stuck in. This role is a perfect blend of comms strategy, planning, creation and delivery – looking to the future and ensuring we realise our vision, while also rolling up their sleeves to get the day to day job done.

We want someone who is hungry for success, willing to work as part of a broader team, eager to make a positive difference and someone who can deliver our IC agenda to high standards.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To lead the development and delivery of internal communications to drive engagement across Marston’s
  • To work with the Head of HRBP and other ‘Heads of’ around the business to develop an IC strategy fit for the future
  • To evolve, grow and improve our current channels, including Yammer, Teams, SharePoint, email, digital newsletter, text messages, cascade briefings and events
  • To work with the Content Creators to develop engaging and creative content for a range of media, including email announcements, news articles, Yammer posts, PPT presentations, videos, posters, blogs, vlogs, podcasts, etc
  • To lead the creation of fresh and inspiring campaigns – from initial concepts and planning through to final delivery and evaluation – that promote various business projects and activities
  • To support the communication approach during periods of change – for example, acquisitions or organisational change
  • To source and create newsworthy stories from across the business that keep teammates up to date with the latest news and share best practice across Marston’s
  • To be the champion for our Microsoft / IT / comms roadmap, supporting the development, maintenance, introduction and evolution of existing channels, such as our newly launched Microsoft 365 suite including Teams, Teams Live, Yammer, and SharePoint
  • To work alongside experts in the business, advising and supporting them with their communication needs and requirements
  • To measure and monitor comms effectiveness, taking the learnings and insight to inform our future plans
  • To manage agencies and consultants to support in the development of a range of content and services, such as email systems, Microsoft partners, video, design and animation freelancers
  • To be curious and research communication and digital trends and techniques, applying them where appropriate to internal campaigns

The ideal candidate:

  • A ‘people’ person who has the confidence and ability to build trusting relationships. There’s no such thing as strangers; only friends you’re yet to meet.
  • A creative and fresh thinker who isn’t afraid to ask ‘why’ and push boundaries to get the best result. You’ll work through the nitty gritty, identify the main objectives and provide a solution.
  • An expert eye for detail and cracking organisation skills – you’ll be a dab hand at pulling comms plans together and delivering them while ensuring top quality, accurate content.
  • You’re an effective team player and individual contributor. You use your unique skills to challenge, advise, support and identify opportunities or challenges, as well as being able to work independently to crack on and deliver.
  • A quick learner who can hit the ground running, wants to listen and learn, and who can take this insight to build a comms agenda to be proud of.
  • A multi-tasking ninja with bags of energy to share. You thrive when you’re getting your teeth stuck into a range of exciting projects at the same time.
  • Digitally savvy. You know what works when it comes to internal social platforms, digital content and channels, and you’re always on the lookout to test the next big craze.
  • Experience of basic design / video editing on packages and systems such as Popullo, SharePoint, Canva and Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro would be a massive benefit.
  • Brings lots of energy and passion to everything they do (likes to work hard and play hard!).
  • Previous experience at a similar level (ideally minimum of 4 years) including management of a small team
  • You’ll have a driving licence and access to a vehicle – as communicators we expect you to stay in touch with the people in our business and while we can use technology to do this, there’s nothing better than getting out and about and in our pubs.
  • 4-5 years’ internal comms experience with an appropriate degree, specific comms qualification (IoIC diploma / NCTJ) or evidence of comms CPD.
  • Have worked in a multi-site environment where front-line employees are particularly hard to reach and engage – retail / leisure industry experience would be ideal.

What you get in return:
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays with the ability to buy and sell holiday
• 20% off in Marston’s pubs and accommodation through our Privilege Card
• Marston’s Rewards Programme (discounts with major retailers)
• Company Contributory Pension Scheme
