37.5 hours per week / Permanent contract

Accommodation available – relocate to the lake district!

This role is eligible for our “Golden Hello” welcome payments up to £2,400 pro rata. These are paid to you in regular instalments during your first year of employment, in addition to your usual salary (Terms and Conditions apply).

What you’ll be doing

As a Chef you’re a key part of our Hospitality and Catering team! You’ll be the supporting the Head Chef and play an important role in delivering catering service to resident groups that visit us at our Blencathra Centre.

  • You’ll do some hands-on cooking, kitchen management and deputising for the Head Chef as needed, as well as assisting with the supervision of the catering team.
  • This is an active role and you’ll need to be happy to be able to carry out all of the duties associated with kitchen work.
  • This is a Chef role with a difference, you can achieve a great Work/Life balance with no late shifts! Our finish time is normally 7.30pm at the latest.
  • We usually operate fixed mealtimes with one or two sittings, using set menus with two or three food choices.

The Field Studies Council Blencathra centre is in a magnificent setting, with unrivalled views of the Lake District. Imagine taking in these surroundings on your lunchbreak!

We welcome over 9,000 visitors each year from schools, colleges, universities, and other organisations. Our visitors come from all over the UK, and for many it is their first trip to the Lake District World Heritage Site.

Who we’re looking for

You will have previous catering experience, a Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate and the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, line managers and customers. In addition to:
