Job Title: Purchasing Supervisor 

Salary: £22,811 per annum 
Contract Type: 2-Year Fixed-Term with possibility of extension or permanency  

Hours: Full time, 36.5 hours per week

The Role 

The role is multi-disciplined and will provide support to Purchasing and Stores functions throughout the Parliamentary Estate. Primary responsibilities are likely to be, but not limited to, the day-to-day ordering, receiving, stock management, and issue of goods in line with departmental processes and legal due diligence. The role may on rare occasion also include supervision and coordination of porters within the team to ensure that products are correctly receipted, stored and issued.  

Along with the physical management of stock, the post holder will also be responsible for a range of respective administrative duties, such as invoice and stock transfer processing, upkeep of supplier performance logs, investigation and rectification of stock variances, and other administrative duties as required.  

The postholder will have a duty of care responsibility for any persons working in or around the delivery and storage areas to which they are assigned and must ensure that the environment is always safe and free from hazards. In this the sense this role will need to be vigilant and ensure that any environmental or equipment defaults are appropriately recorded and reported so that the workplace always remains safe. 

The Person 

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience: 

  • Good knowledge of a wide range of food and beverage products including a good understanding of acceptable quality standards and an awareness of specifications. 

  • An understanding of safe and hygienic practices for the receipt, handling and storage of all goods to ensure that products are managed in a safe way.  

  • In line with the House’s equality, diversity, and inclusion policies, must have effective oral and written communication skills, maintaining professional integrity at all times when speaking with colleagues and suppliers and when drafting professional written correspondence. 

  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate staff. Able to offer on-job training and to support the team while taking responsibility for managing performance, attendance and conduct.
