Sous Chef

Kimbolton School is a thriving HMC independent (‘private’) co-educational day and boarding school located in Cambridgeshire and within easy reach of Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire


The School educates over 1000 boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 18 in a co-educational, predominantly day environment, although there are up to 60 boarders. The Senior School is located around Kimbolton Castle while the preparatory school is housed to the west of the village on the original Grammar School site.

Safeguarding is integrated into the school ethos and it’s the School’s belief that it is the duty of all members of staff to play an active role in ensuring the safety and promoting the welfare of the children in the School’s care.


An exciting opportunity has become available at the School; and we are now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Sous Chef.
The position is for 40 hours per week to be worked 5 out of 7 days on a shift rota with a daily half hour unpaid lunch. This is a non-term time, and you will be expected to work 52 weeks minus annual and statutory holidays.


Salary £29,848 per annum

You will be...

Assist the Head Chef in the organisation and management of the kitchen and kitchen brigade and deputises in the absence of the Head Chef. Responsible for the provision of quality seasonal food in a contemporary style in line with the CH&CO brand whilst maintaining all standards of quality, food hygiene and health and safety. Contributes to the achievement of all budgetary targets and provides high standards of customer service. To work on 5 over 7 shift basis as required by the business.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• To produce food, which is seasonal, of known provenance, locally sourced in a timely fashion to ensure smooth service to the customers.
• To deputise in the Head Chef’s absence.
• To assist the Head Chef in developing and planning menus that are in line with client and customer expectations at the relevant CH&CO site.
• To prepare and oversee all preparation of food to the highest standard and in line with the CH&CO style.
• To ensure that all appropriate ingredients are available for the menus being prepared and where necessary identify shortages and instigate action to source ingredients.
• To communicate with the relevant parties all requirements for planned menus and order necessary ingredients.
• To undertake stock ordering and stocktaking as necessary.
• Inform Head Chef of supplier quality issues
