Tom Foolery offers a high quality cooked breakfast, brunch and lunch offer in a relaxed casual dining space meeting the desires of the local community and visitors to Shoreham-by-Sea. The role of Hospitality Team Member Apprentice is a new position and will work alongside our Front of House Manager, Supervisor and the rest of the team. The role will include workplace learning within the coffee shop/restaurant and will be a minimum of 30 hours per week over 4/5 days. There will be a start time of 8.30 am. The day will begin with turning the coffee machine on and learning how to ‘dial in’ the coffee to ensure the best espresso. We have a formal ‘opening procedure’ that includes the counter to be set up for breakfast with pastries, granola and other breakfast items. Signage will be accessible and health and safety checks carried out including fridge temperatures. After opening orders will be taken at the counter and drinks and meals delivered to the customers. The counter display will change through the day to reflect the various food offers. Lunch preparation will begin around midday with specials and menu items. Customer service is crucial and it is important that the apprentice contributes to the whole team ethos and works together to provide the best customer experience. Front of House staff are trained in barista skills to a high level as we provide artisan menu of hot drinks. Front of House staff are also responsible for providing ice-creams and ice-cream sundaes alongside our range of milkshakes and smoothies. Delivery of meals and drinks to the table are also an opportunity to check that the customers are happy. Throughout the day Front of House staff are responsible for cleaning tables and using the dishwasher to keep crockery stocked.Cleaning and meeting regulatory standards will continue throughout a shift. At 3pm the main kitchen closes and it is the Front of House staff who meet customer requirements with counter food and paninis alongside our drinks. All of the stock needs to be kept topped up and regular stock checks are carried out and orders maintained to keep the shop well stocked. All of the staff work together in the final 2 hours culminating in a ‘close down’ procedure being carried out from 5pm when the Tom Foolery closes.

The team at Tom Foolery is small but dedicated and friendly and it is important that all team members work together to deliver an excellent customer experience. Tom Foolery is very popular, and at times can be extremely busy, so the successful candidate will be calm and methodical with high standards and pride in the service they provide. Our Hospitality Team Member Apprentice will understand the importance of meeting customers needs through listening to their requirements and at times adapting to meet special dietary, religious and allergenic requirements.
