Seasonal Duty Manager - YHA Patterdale

YHA Patterdale is looking to recruit a seasonal Duty Manager who will support the existing management team with the delivery of our catering and management of the Kitchen, you will be working between 25 - 42.5 hours per week from mid-February until November.  Although this role has a large emphasis around kitchen management, the role is multi-faceted and you will have to step out of the kitchen and help elsewhere in the hostel throughout the working week, whether that be working on recpertion or housekeeping. This role is a perfect opportunity for someone looking to take early steps towards management.

YHA Patterdale is nestled in the middle of the Eastern Fells of the Lake District, close to the shores of Ullswater and the village of Glenridding, and undoubtedly surrounded by some of the best fell walking in The Lakes. YHA Patterdale is located directly on the A592, half an hour from the M6 and Penrith by car. The village is serviced by a regular bus service from Penrith and in the summer, this extends to Windermere.

We love to work hard and provide our guests with a great stay in this busy and fast paced 86 bed hostel, with its additional camping field. Our guests range from individual walkers, families to school and youth groups.  Whether you love fell walking, running, mountain biking or prefer to spend your days on the water, there are endless opportunities to get in to the great outdoors and enjoy your summer season with us!

What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Seasonal Duty Manager?

Our Seasonal Duty Manager role requires flexibility to cover different shifts and tasks. It’s an advantage but not essential that our duty managers have worked in a face-to-face role with customers previously. Experience** in hospitality or customer service would be advantageous, including the management and delivery of a quality service.

As our catering lead you are responsible for supporting the management of an operational budget and delivery of KPI’s, supporting with a wide range of customer facing duties across the hostel, delivering an excellent service to all guests and visitors, giving them a great experience of YHA.

• managing the food and beverage operation within your hostel.
• leading the preparation and delivery of food to agreed YHA standards
• carrying out cleaning duties predominantly within our kitchen and food and beverage service areas
• minimising food and beverage waste
• maximising food and beverage profits

**We value lived experience just as much as previous skills and knowledge. We offer a robust induction, ongoing training, and further development, however, some of our roles will have further skills requirements. It’s an advantage but not essential that our team members have experience volunteering or working with other people.

Duties vary so good communication skills and basic IT skills are advantageous. Excellent time keeping is essential.

Our Seasonal Duty Managers deputise for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the hostel’s daily operation in their absence.
