This is an exciting opportunity to join the Field Studies Council (FSC), one of the UK’s leading providers of outdoor environmental education. Field Studies Council is a pioneering environmental education charity committed to enabling people discover, explore, understand, and be inspired by the world around us. Established in 1943, our network of Learning Locations provide day and residential courses for all ages, from young children to retired adults, from schools and communities throughout the UK, reaching many others through our publications and community-based programmes.

Imagine a role that offers you both unique opportunities and challenges; where you are an important part of an empowered team who strive to create a truly memorable experience for every individual who visits our Field Studies Council Locations and where you have the chance to demonstrate your passion to deliver the highest standards of customer service and care.  No matter what role you perform at the Field Studies Council, everyone can make a difference... if you want to join our successful Environmental Education Charity and you have what it takes to make a difference then we want to hear from you.

Being a Head Chef with Field Studies Council is very different to working in a conventional restaurant.  Our kitchen is a busy and sometimes hectic environment (we cater for up to 140 covers). However, the nature of our business means that we operate set mealtimes with one or two sittings at breakfast and dinner; and provide occasional light lunches/refreshments for small groups during the day (the majority of our customers have packed lunches which they make themselves).  Split shifts are common with a breakfast shift typically 7-10 or 11am, and dinner shift from 3pm to 8pm max. Menus are limited to 2-3 choices plus a vegetarian option.  Even so, we are committed to promoting healthy eating and incorporating organic, fair-trade and local produce in our menus. We use Pelican Pi ordering system including centre specific recipe order allowing efficient administration.

You will need to have the ability to multi-task effectively and be willing to adapt flexibly to changes within a well-established and continually developing Centre whilst contributing to a friendly welcoming atmosphere for customers and colleagues at all times.
