Run A Pub - The Silent Woman

The Silent Woman is a characterful pub nestled in the heart of Wareham Forest in Dorset, serving great quality food and drink to a wide variety of locals, diners and holidaymakers.

The Silent Woman is nestled in the heart of Wareham Forest in Dorset, just a short distance from the thriving South Dorset town of Wareham.  There are plenty of picturesque walks and attractions nearby, as well as several popular camping sites. The larger town of Poole is just 10 miles away, offering an abundance of seaside attractions.

Consequently, the customer base is wide and varied with the pub attracting campers, walkers, day-trippers as well as being a destination dining venue for nearby residents

Although there is a railway station in Wareham, transport by car is undoubtedly the most popular way of visiting the pub due to its rural forest location.

Until the 1920s the pub was known as The Angel, but after Thomas Hardy referred to it as ‘the Quiet Lady’ in his novel ‘The Return of the Native’, the pub changed its name to ‘the Silent Woman’. Today, the pub is a popular wedding venue, with a lovely garden gazebo and picturesque landscaped garden.

The Silent Woman has been lovingly developed both internally and externally by the current business partners who have had a fine track record at the pub for the last 17 years. Outside in the extensive grounds are many different areas of landscaping and shade to offer something for everyone enjoying alfresco dining.

There are many opportunities to develop the business given the pub’s unique location and available space, as illustrated by the current operators successfully obtaining and operating as a wedding venue. Therefore, the ideal applicant will have an entrepreneurial edge as well as being able to meet the varied eating demands of the eclectic customer base. A background in a varied catering business would be a distinct advantage.

Like the rest of the pub, the upstairs accommodation is in very good order comprising 3 bedrooms, an office, bathroom, lounge, and storerooms. The catering kitchen is shared as a domestic kitchen.
