Skern Lodge are an outdoor activity and development training centre based in Appledore, North Devon. Established in 1976, Skern Lodge provides education, learning and fun through adventure.
A chance has arisen for a keen apprentice to join the kitchen team at Skern Lodge, learn the trade along with working to gain a Level 2 Production Chef Qualification.
Duties to include:
• food preparation inc. packed lunches, breakfasts, light meals & salads
• assisting the Chef as required inc food preparation and desserts
• assisting the chef in the cooking of the evening meal when required
• Serving breakfast, lunch and dinners to customers and colleagues
• General kitchen duties inc. washing up & cleaning duties
• Serving of alcohol in our bar where required (if over 18)
• Knowledge of dishwasher
• Basic cooking skills
• To hold an undated basic Food Hygiene certificate
• First aid knowledge
• Knowledge of who is who
• Knowledge of Dining room and kitchen systems
• Customer service
• Waiting on tables during functions or weddings
• Ability to assist in food service and preparation when needed
• To work in the pot wash sinks
• To be concerned about good quality standards of food and service
• To be aware of stock rotation
• Calmness, when under stress
• To have knowledge of all kitchen equipment
• To have knowledge of fire drill
• To prepare home-made sweets when necessary
• To provide a salad bar with each evening meal
• To keep cleaning schedule updated
• To assist with cover for sickness or holiday
• To report all problems to the Catering Manager
• Knowledge of cleaning system, and cleaning products
• To complete cleaning schedule
• To assist as Chef
• Participate in team meetings.
• General kitchen duties to include, cleaning, and washing up.
• Must be able to work on own as well as part of a team

Qualifications Required

GCSE's Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English is an advantage, however, Maths and English will be assessed as part of the interview process.
