  • Top deterrents to running a pub were late nights, stress, long hours, and concerns about profitability and work/life balance.
  • Potential licensees are using word of mouth and job boards as primary ways to find job opportunities.
  • The top 3 methods of recruiting new staff are social media, word of mouth and job boards.
  • 1 in 3 potential licensees wouldn’t know where to find job opportunities if they were interested in running a pub.
  • 59% of respondents rated their recruitment process as good or very good.
  • 55% were satisfied with their pub company’s recruitment website.
  • 70% were happy with the initial interview process.
  • Hardest roles to fill were chefs, waiting staff, and bar staff.
  • The biggest hurdles in recruitment were finding skilled people and managing pay expectations.
  • 1 in 5 licensees considering leaving the pub sector within 12 months.
